The 2012 softball season came to an end for Morgan State on May 6, as the visiting Coppin State Eagles defeated the Lady Bears, 4-1 in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) North Division game at Lois T. Murray Field in Baltimore, Md.

Morgan State’s loss, which gave Coppin State a 2-1 series win, was the fifth MEAC series loss for the Lady Bears out of six series this season. It also spoiled the Lady Bears Senior Day for their six seniors: Saba Zewdu, Amber Frame, Sakina Smith, Lydia Walther-Rodriguez, Boshia Richardson and Devina Brown.

Morgan State (12-23 overall record, 6-12 MEAC record) broke a scoreless game in the third inning when Shareday Christina singled through the left side to score Walther-Rodriguez for a 1-0 lead.

Coppin State (20-20 overall, 13-5 MEAC) finally got on the board two innings later when it broke through with three runs in the fifth. Emily DeJesus stepped to the plate with bases loaded and delivered a three-run double to left center, giving the Eagles a 3-1 advantage.

The Eagles would add an insurance run in the seventh inning when Paige Arnold would score on a double to left field by Candice Van Horn to give Coppin the 4-1 victory.

Coppin State was led by Arnold, who went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, while DeJesus finished 1-for-3 with 3RBI. Arnold (15-13), also pitched a complete game, allowing a run on five hits and had a game-high five strikeouts.
Walther-Rodriguez led the Lady Bears, going 1-for-3 with a run scored in her final collegiate game, while Christina also went 1-for-3 and drove in the team's lone run. Tiffany Rubin, Deanna Matlock and Frame all finished 1-for-3 on the day.
